A new style Z Scale car!
The turn of the 19th Century and the USA was fully involved in it's Industrial Revolution! Textile Mills, Food Processing, Medicine, Transportation, and of course, Steel! The Railroads were modernizing as well! What to do with the abundant Railcars? The invention of the one-piece, cast side-frame Bettendorf truck with it's integral journal boxes was a huge step forward. Steel plating was pinned or replaced for older wooden floors, eliminating the need for truss bars. By the 1930's most hand-brake setups gave way to early air-brake systems. Thus, Full Throttle brings a nifty new car style to the Z Scale hobby. We've taken the Old-Timey woodside reefers, popularized by Father Nature, and performed the same refurbishing that the Railroads used to bring these dated cars into the 20th Century. Hypothetically, we've replaced the flooring with steel sheeting, eliminated the truss rods, and replaced Archbar or Andrews trucks with the newer Bettendorf types. These venerable and useful cars could be employed in freight or reefer operation and found utility with the Railroads, especially Short Lines and Spurs well until WWII and even after, into the early Diesel Era. A splendid small railcar, especially for Z Scale action!
All open hoppers feature custom coal loads from Hay Brothers. And now, all new releases are equipped with Full Throttle's own trucks, metal wheels and knuckle couplers. Click the product thumbnails for larger images or more information (where available).
